"Pan-African programme for the Control of Epizootics"

Position : regional technical advisor for 10 west and central African countries : Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Congo and DRC.

Topics :

  • technical support to the national coordinators of the 10 national PACE programmes;

  • technical assistance related to the four thrusts of the PACE programme : institutionnal strengthening of veterinary services (including legislation), global rinderpest eradication programme, strengthening of veterinary services to livestock owners (promoting private veterinary practice) and improving control of other major epizootics (CBPP, Peste des Petits Ruminants, African Swine Fever, Rift Valley Fever, Lumpy Skin Disease, Foot-and-Mouth disease...);

  • emergency assistance for disease outbreaks (rinderpest Mauritania 2003, bird flu Nigeria 2006);

  • development of epidemiosurveillance networks and disease preparedness plans (contingency planning);

  • improving disease reporting, database management and disease information systems (GIS and ARIS);

  • improving communication from and towards stakeholders;

  • general assistance related to programme/office management and financial management, according to EDF guidelines;

  • monitoring and evaluation of programme progress and management;

  • pursuing regional integration of programme activities in neighbouring countries.
